Hi from MI

Hello from Attica MI. My name is Dave and I've been wanting a Jeep for quite sometime, and finally got the clout to purchase one. I picked up an 09 2door X w/the lifetime powertrain warranty. I would like to build it up, but am leary on what can and will void my warranty. This is my only source of transportation and absolutely love it so far. Thanks for creating such a great community for JK owners!

Welcome Dave! I'm in the same situation you're in - wanted a Wrangler for a long time, finally got one (09 X as well, DD too), and want to mod it as well.

This is a great forum...lots of great advice, tech info, and great people.

Welcome!

I have the 09 Rubi with the lifetime, but I've also lifted mine and added bumpers and other odds and ends. The warranty can only be voided if the part that broke was negatively affected by the modification. For instance, a broken axle shaft can be related to larger tires and they could not warranty it. On the other hand, I've had an alternator replaced on mine, and recently they replaced my throwout bearing (which involves removing the trans) and nobody said anything about my lift and tires.

In other words, don't worry too much about the warranty. Some dealers are dicks, but most aren't and we have enough here in Michigan that it isn't hard to find another jeep dealer that will work with you.

I'm in Fenton. I have family up in West Branch and I'm always running up there to do some wheeling if anyone wants to join.

Welcome to JKO, it's a great place to be...

West Branch area is pretty hard to beat really. There are boat loads of nice trails and some decent scenery and it's right off the highway. Nothing really all that extreme though, but considering it's your first jeep it'll be great for you.

There is currently about a foot of snow onthe ground up there though so if your still on your stock tires, unless it's a Rubi, you might be better off waiting till spring.

Welcome! I spent a summer in Holly years ago, running ground crew for the Buick Hot Air Balloon, out of Seven Lakes SP. Beautiful!
