22 Dec Tortolitas exploration

Ok finally after wanting to go out to the tortolitas for years now. We are officially going to go out and see what is out there. It may be nothing at all or it could be some serious stuff that is different than reddington all the time.

While all the other mall rats are out shopping before christmas we will be out enjoying where the jeeps rule.

This article is probably the most I could find out about any trail out there.

Thanks for the chuckles fellas.....problem is, when Olive said "I bought tickets to my folks for christmas" what she meant was: "I charged 3 tickets to Ireland on your credit card".

Cat's locker fix;

Hello Capital one, may I speak to Peggy please. Hi Peggy, we seem to have a problem here. Someone charged 3 tickets to Ireland on my credit card. I did not make this purchase. The only recent purchase I made was for ARB lockers, onboard air and a couple of locker switches. Can you please cancel those bogus Ireland tickets and get my lockers on order now!? Thank you Peggy.

Are you talking of starting just west of oracle just past catalina? If so, one thing to note is the maps are outdated. It shows the trails going all the way through and coming out near marana. But there are a few houses built up there recently and now the trails are marked no trespassing. It is fun to explore up there just take enough water and plan on backtracking the way you came in. I learned the hard way.

Not going in on the east side. We did that about 2 years ago and met a damm tank trap gate in the middle and had to turn around and go home. I am talking about going in on the southwest side at the Marana exit and heading up cochie canyon road.

I am not getting my hopes up of finding anything but it is worth a shot. I have seen some pics that show a couple of good hard rock crawling spots. I will try to make some homemade maps of the area.

I think I am up for this. I have gone from the Northwest end through to Rail-X 3 or so times. Mostly pole lines and then fire roads/washes. Lots of trails going from North to South that look promising to explore.

The Southwest corner has a lot of dead ends and what I believe is private property. There is some state land off of Tangerine that might possible provide access to the Southern end.

I haven't been too adventurous since I was alone and stock.

I found a few threads awhile back when looking for more info on the area. This is one of them.

Does Cochise Springs road go through or is it gated?

Gated with angry land owners. I think that we will have Dave take us in from the west side. If he wants to go.

If I'm not mistaken I have seen pics of this with FJ's walking up it. Could be wrong but it sure looks to be the same place.

You need to look at Gecko Canyon Trail on google maps, looks to be all like that. I know it peaked my interest when I was looking for a place to hunt using google maps. From what I can tell you can probably get to it from tangerine and como dr.

We will be out wheeling. I think that we are going in on that way. It looks like a fucking awesome challenge in there.

Anyone going on this trip check out this route on google maps.

Tangerine then go north on La Cholla Blvd to Moore Rd. Go west on Moore rd to N Como Dr. North on Como Dr. to Cougar Canyon Trail. go west on Cougar Canyon Trail to N Jojoba Hills Dr, go west on N Jojoba Hills dr. which turns into N Tortolita Estates Dr. Follow that to where it says jeep trail (you may have to zoom in) Just past that there is an "X" where that meets and the wash meet We will go in there and head east on that wash which will turn into Gecko Canyon Trail

I know that it is alot of turns but that looks promising. Anybody wanna go exploring on the 8th of December to that area to see if it is worth it?

Nothing crazy just a look around. Maybe even walk parts of the trail just to see what is there. The 22nd will be the full on possible all day trip.
