Ruby Bat Cave Run

What: Bats leaving bat cave at Ruby.
When: July 7th a Saturday at 11:38 AM
Where: Meet at the Long Horn for lunch
Why: Cuz, Carlsbad is too far away to watch Bats fly out of a hole.

We will meet up at the Longhorn restaurant at the Amado junction across from the Cow Palace. Have a little lunch, then head out to Arivaca. From there take the back way into the Yellow Jacket and possibly a bonus points hill. Maybe some of you remember from the last time..
From there travel back and go towards the Arivaca lake but turn off into a canyon, valley I bet no ones been down. It comes out at Ruby. I was hoping to get there around 4pm so those of you that want to tour the town can. The keeper of the gate will close it at 6pm sharp for we have to be in before then.
The guy will tell us then what time to expect the bats to fly away. Right now its between 6:45 and 7:45pm. After they go, we go. You will take the main road back to Arivaca then down to I-19.
There are fees involved. Anywhere from 5-15$ a head. The price is going to be determined by him when we get there. 15$ for the full tour of town 5$ for to just watch the bats.... I think he will be in the middles somewhere as we can have a nice short look around maybe dunk out toes in the lake ect. He has some info on the different buildings that are left and a very good book on Ruby. Theres so much history there.
Anyway, there you have it. Lets me know who is interested in going!!!

This was a great time last time we did this! The gatekeeper sure wasn't a fan of me though...

How is the trail getting out there? Any wheeling or all dirt roads? I'm trying to guage whether a stock TJ and a driver who enjoys mostly back roads would do.

Thanks.

Well, a couple of things. We were driving on what I believe are mine tailings, which is apparently a no-no. And then when we all went to park to talk to him near his house, he had just planted some tiny plants (I don't even remember what they were) at the "edge" of the driveable area (it was about as defined as an offroad trail) and I parked near them. I didn't even realize it, but I had apparently parked on about half of this 2" x 2" plant that he planted (I think there ended up being one completely underneath the tire also). I felt bad about it but he was super upset about it and how us wheelers just come in and do whatever we want and tear everything up. He got pretty excited. He kept telling me to look at what I had done and I had no idea what he was talking about. To me it looked like he had planted these seedlings in a semi driveable area.

I will be there with Aimee unless I can get away from her for the day.

You can live in your Jeep, but you can't off-road your house.

Well, there is a new gatekeeper. I think he's ok... The trip is very simmilar to last time no huge problems. Stock is just fine. If you remember the bonus points hill, thats the only speep place and stock shoould be able to do that also. Remeber the BP drives all these roads. Hope that helps...

Alex was sooo funny that day. He now knows where his 4 tires are.. The gatekeeper (Sundog) was a bit strange. But I think you have to be to just live out there day after day!!!

Glad your coming, you'll have fun.

Well in all fairness his hedge was just maybe 2 inches tall. There were a number of jeeps and little room to park to check in. We will have the same problem this time. However this new guy doesn't have a garden growning in the driveway, and no ducks to run over.... Not that we did, but I'm sure Alex wanted to.... LOL

But BP doesn't care if they bash a government vehicle. They will just get a new one. We used to drive humvee's like they were stolen.

Speaking of bears, where's that snoring one Jeremy. If your gonna let TJ's go then he should be in on this one too.

Oh yeah, I'll invite Kevin and karen in their old yellow CJ. They would get a kick out of this. That is if they are in town that weekend.
