Wheel in Scottsdale Area?

Hey all,

I've been looking a bit for some information on where to wheel with wife and dog on a vacation trip to Scottsdale area. When I search the inter webs, I get a bunch of guided jeep trips, with no information on trails. I tried searching here but maybe i am not hitting the key words right but not much luck there either.

Our plan is to drive over just after thanks giving for a week to 10 days in the Jeep and with the mountain bikes and hangout for a while. Hit some scenic trails and bike, enjoy the area then head back to Texas and maybe make a trail or two in New Mexico on the way back. We aren't looking for carnage and lot's of adrenaline, but mild to moderate trails to get out and enjoy the scenery and the Jeep as we will have to drive it home, too!

I appreciate any information you can share with a visitor to the area.

You have a lot to choose from. Plan on hitting Sedona while you're here? That's where you're seeing the scenic Jeep tours, but most are still open to the public. Easy stuff like Schnebly Hill Rd. and popular Broken Arrow that can be stock friendly but clearance is recommended. Handful of others.
Table Mesa is close by with a mix of easy to buggy only. Look up Table Mesa and stuff like Raw Deal, Upper/Lower Terminator.
East side trails, Sycamore, Elvis, Box Canyon. Ton more out there, but since I'm on the west side I don't get out there much. There are a couple lakes out there with some dirt road trails that are scenic, Montana Mountain.
Great book of AZ trails All Things Jeep - Jeep Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails

I've only been here a couple of years, so this is just a fraction of what's out here.

Are we talking about Scottsdale Az? If so there are plenty of places within 30-45 MIN.

If you stop back through Tucson on a weekend day I can take you out on an easy trail that can be done in about 5 hours.

If you get the funtreks app on your cell phone, it will list them out, and give you the gps coordinates. It is kinda cool. I think there are like 100 trails that are near the Phoenix Scottsdale area. I could even be persuaded to ditch work a day or two to go with you. Of course, I can always be persuaded to ditch work.

Thanks everyone. You guys are giving just the advice and assistance I was looking for. I appreciate the names, apps and such for getting me where i need to go, and to Uncle Sam, I will look at the schedule a little closer to that time and may just take you up on the offer.

We don't have any real schedule or timeline. Just getting out to go do something different. We haven't made a Jeep run this year due to our work schedules. We did Ouray, CO last year, and have been trying to find time this year and just haven't. I get back from Angola the day after Thanksgiving, then the next day, the dog wife and I load up and head west. My rig isn't stock, but not what I would call built either. Running 35s on stock axles (I know, they are on the list of things to do when money allows), 3.5 lift and lockers. But it's also my daily so it's more for to get me out of trouble than in to. And, like i said, I need to drive it home also.

Anyway, I appreciate the help, and if anyone has anymore suggestions, please post up.

Randy
