Packard Plant 3/31

I don't want to muck up the BS thread anymore. I will post pics and and other stuff from it here, since they have been asked for.

So far AGTSUNSHINE (possibly), Mojave Wrangler and myself are going.

I also have a few extra people from work and my brother, possibly brothers are also going. We feel the more the better so bring friends.

1580 East Grand Boulevard, Detroit Mi, 48211

That is accross the street from the parking lot at the "Grocer".

Timing seems to be an issue with everyone involved, so how would early afternoon sound to everyone? Some around here want to get their drunk on on Friday and sleep in a bit so the general consensus seems to be between 2 and 3 pm. I might go the whole day, I don't know yet, just know I am going.

I don't want to get too crazy there though:

If you break down don't leave your Jeep there. They will push it off the fourth floor.

Have fun guys and be safe.

It's legal in the sense that no one cares. People have been going there and scrapping it, burning it, having partys in it with the music full blast, stolen cars getting stripped with the hulks of them laying randomly about the building. Want a hull for a boat? Take your pick.

The fire department is under strict orders not to enter the building. Sometimes portions of it burn for days. Walls have been removed from it and put in peoples houses for the graffiti on them. There are some crazy good murals on some of the walls, paintball marks...rooms with just random crap. It is an urban ruin in the truest sense of the word.

I have never in my life heard of anyone getting hassled by the cops for being in there.

I have driven by it every day this week on east grand, there are always a few cars in the grocer lot. Come on down, you are welcome to.

Between 2 and 3pm... Why the hell did make plans in AA at 5pm.

I had planned on going in the morning time so that I could be heading back home by 2-3pm. Looks like I will have to sit this one out... If you guys decide not to have too much fun on Friday , and plan on being there early in day like earlier planned let me know and I will be there for sure.

Either way have fun Mike.

Any of you guys check out the old psychiatric hospital in Northville on 7 Mile Rd? Seems a popular venue for urban explorers.

I work right down the street from there in Northville. I know that site gets patrolled pretty well, especially with a MSP station right down the road. I would use caution, and probably think twice before going there, but hey, that's just me!

MSP post on 7 mile is just the crime lab and where the bomb squad keeps their rig. The twp patrols do happen throughout the day but it doesnt seem to put a dent in people going onto the property. Everytime I go in their things are changed around. People are scrapping the buildings on a seemingly daily basis. It was a lot better when it first closed down but its getting pretty beat up now. One of these days Ide like to tour the interior of the two prisons on 5 mile.

On second thought I may have to skip that prison thing. From what I have been able to gather that if they do decide to come after you for trespassing, it is state land, and they do not use lube. Just saying.

I will take lots of pics, looks like it is going to be an all day adventure for me.

Yeah the trespassing tickets do carry a hefty price tag on them. If I recall correctly its something to the tune of $400 after costs and fees are tacked on which seems a little high to me. However, if you ever want to do whats called a civilian ride along I do hear that part of the daily patrol can often lead you into the properties for checks. Oh technically the psychiatric hospital is now owned by the township. The old prisons are still owned by the state but have 24/7 budget patrols by one guy who sleeps between rounds.

Sounds like the guy at Fisher Body. If we can figure something out I will give it a shot.

That's cool. I will be there at 10 also so give me a call when you get close. Yellow jeep, and I will park where you will be able to see me from the road.

It has been raining most of the day so wear stuff you don't really care about so much. Just bring a flashlight and a sense of adventure!
