We all know cellphone service on Drummond is spotty at best. Unless you're at the ferry (at least with Verizon) you're going to have a hard time getting a signal.
Wouldn't it be nice to get on your radio and call your wheeling buddies anywhere on the island and be able to get through to them? Whether it is for meeting up with their group, asking what time they will be back for beers, or even to call for an airlift ambulance for some unlucky person that took that extra step at Marblehead. (Yes people do actually fall there, My son being one) How about some wheeler that wanted to hit the trails but did not have a group to go with and now he's stuck on the south marble head loop and needs help.
Mud, Sweat, and Gears club in conjunction with GLFWDA and other individuals and groups, is putting together a Ham radio repeater for the island so the entire island will be covered by radio communications. It takes money, time, and skill. If you have any interest in using this system or would like someone in your group that does have a ham radio to be able to call for help for you, please visit the following links to see how you can help make this a reality.
