Pickers

Any of you floridians play guitar? mandolin? Banjo? Anything stringed?

I plan mandolin and geetar. Just curious if any of the new guys play. I'm sure we'll wind up at the same campfire eventually. Be good to have someone to throw down w/.

Used to play bass, but haven't owned one in a long time. I have an acoustic guitar that I can't seem to learn how to play. Chords are a whole different ball game from a bass line.

Play guitar (both electric and acoustic) and bass guitar, learned a few things on mandolins (love those things but my fat fingers don't)

Just purchased a Martin Backpacker acoustic a couple months back especially for the jeep trips. 199 bucks at guitar center and a 20 dollar 2 year warranty that fully replaces it if ANYTHING happens to it. no fine print, they don't even try to fix it, they just give you a new one from the store. When the warranty runs out you can renew it all over again. The perfect jeep/camping/hiking guitar.

I'll for sure do some jammin around the fire sometime

been meaning to hit up the local drum circle for the past year or so but conflicting work schedule has prevented me.

I've played guitar (acoustic and electric) for about 15-16 years and I have a couple banjos that I've learned some and am still in the process of learning. Nothing fancy on the banjos yet since I don't have anyone to pick with, but am always looking for people to pick the banjo with. I would absolutely love to get together with some fellow Jeepers around a campfire and start pickin' away. What could be better than that? Jeeps and stringed instruments?!?! Sign me up for some of that....

I'm thinking REAL hard about buying one of these:

A greek instrument called a bouzouki. It's an 8 stringed instrument w/ the double strings being an octave higher. OR get the Irish Bouzouki which is simply doubled (like a mandolin). I love the way they sound and I figure it wouldnt be too hard to learn since I already play mandolin (well, a bastardized version of mandolin tuned up EADG as opposed to GDAE). But I digress..

I think it'd just be kickass to whip out an unusual instrument when I go jam w/ the boys...

Has a great sound:

Irish Bouzouki- Across the Universe<<< clearly learning it.

YouTube - jigs on irish bouzouki <<< this looks easy to play and FUN

I have an elcheapo backpacker - forget the maker. They're good for a guitar fix, but the sound just blows lol.

I can't get over how bad the martin back packer sounds. I tried to give it a shot, but it is so uninspiring. I have a cheap ovation I take camping.

You should get that Dave.

Edit: I just noticed this is in the Florida section.. well FU Dave.

I take my mandolin backpacking. I bought my backpacker guitar before I learned mandolin. Dont need the backpacker anymore.

I treat my guitars like trash. I cant help it. It's jut how I am. I have woke up MANY times, crawled out of my hammock, tent, RV and found my instruments laying on the ground lol. So I have learned to keep it simple.

I will say this: a Fender Electric Acoustic Mandolin can take a FUCKING BEATING. And my Oscar Schmidtt Knuckle Breaker 2000 acoustic guitar apparently can as well.

Oscar Schmidtt LOL:

it sounds much better now that i've set it up than it did when i got it (not as twangy now... and rings out more). just needed a little TLC. well... every guitar needs to be setup.

still not perfect though... and won't be... it's not what it was designed for. like karn said... just for a fix.

I knew you picked. But youre useless ot me out there in Liberafornia.

I was hoping the new batch of Florida boys would have a few pickers (the slackers that came over in wave 1 didnt - other than me). And I found a few!

Well if we were talking about FAKE instruments...

Having played both, I prefer the Rock Band series to GH. Anybody play online on the PS3 platform?
