Shop referrals

I figured there might be a sticky for this...
Does anyone have a shop they can refer me too for some work? Just got back from the Rubicon Trail and need the following work. I've had some issues with previous YELP/ONLINE finds. Would love to get a personal referral...

Anywhere in the Los Angeles area. I live downtown and work near LAX.

Must do:
- Diagnose engine codes: P0300 - Misfire, P? - O2 Sensor and P? - Evap
- Rear differential changed after trail. We did not put RTV on front seal and TC is slowly leaking. Please check why rear diff is slowly leaking as well. Tongued to spec (160ft lbs.)
- Install new shocks (provided)
- Rotate tires. (please include spare)

Would like to do:
- Cruise control not working (forums point to clock-spring)
- Vacuum pump turns on a lot while off-roading with foot on the brakes. (Pump has been relocated to top drivers side of the engine compartment.)
- Adjust rear suspension bars to clear coil springs. Spring is currently touching the axle housing when compressed. (Needs to be adjusted approx 1").

Future:
- Install flipped drag link (front) (weld)
- Install front C-gussets (weld)
- Cut spring perches and rotate (weld)
- Install EVO rock star rear shock mounts (weld)

I was referred to a mechanic in my area and I checked their yelp reviews and it looks like they do a very good job with people, however they are just a general mechanic but do pretty much everything.

It looks like there is a need in the market for an off-road specific review based mechanics referral tool or app.

No doubt. Gain some knowledge from the forum before calling. Then Call and ask some questions.
I can generally make a decision based on the answers i get.

I have been referred to Dave Long of Long Automotice in Silverlake. He is open tomorrow on Saturday.
He has experience with off-road race truck suspension work and is a general mechanic. I also found this write up on his shop.

Wish me luck.

Chris50Smith. Let me know how your experience went with Long. Im local in silverlake and would be handy for someone that close to work on the car. I do have a guy in the I.E. who is superior for Suspension fabrication but its a drive. He is amazingly affordable though.

I will! I've heard good things and he seemed legitimate.

Long Auto replaced the O2 sensor, replaced the shocks (installed 5100 bilstein @ 29.5" extended), fixed small leaks in rear of transfer case and diff. So far so good. Finished in time frame expected and charged less than expected. Next time I take in I'll have attack the cruise control issue (possible clockspring) and rear suspension adjustments (rear axle needs to be moved forward about 1").

If you go, ask for the owner "Dave"

On your clockspring issue, there is a recall that your jeep may fall under for a replacement. Give your local dealer a call and have them check.

South Bay Truck and 4x4 in Hawthorne is a true off-road knowledgable shop that can do whatever you need for the mechanics. Just two guys, though, so you need to be a bit flexible for scheduling. Not sure of a reputable shop for electronics issues. I've heard good things about Island Jeep in Redondo Beach.

Was just about to mention them. I've only needed my diff oil changed with them so no extensive history, but everything went super smooth.

But be warned, Frank, the owner, if you get him on phone, he will NOT stop talking about trucks and Wranglers. The guy goes waaaaay back with Wranglers, back when his dad had one, to the one he owned that was featured in some 4x4 mag (or a couple), plus 15 minutes of more talk in between and after...

Point is, he'll do a better job than anyone around cuz he knows his stuff, but schedule conversation buffer time.

I have had good luck with Blackstone Jeep Shop in Santa Clarita. Ron does great work, and his prices are fair.
