gun question

hi guys. greetings from the frozen northeast!

my sister lives in burbank and wants to buy a pistol. i have a pretty good collection here and i was going to just give her one but i have NO idea what your laws are like out there. i know there's lots of restrictions and what not. so i wanted to see.

i don't want her to buy something and have it not be legal. it's for her house. it'd be a "bedside" (safe) gun.

any info on what i need to know out there before helping her pick one would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

To purchase a pistol she'll need to get a handgun safety certificate http://oag.ca.gov/firearms/hscfaqs#a6, pass a background check (DROS) and you can only purchase a handgun that has been certified by the people's republik of Kalifornia http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/.

Now I'm no expert and have never tired to buy an off-roster handgun, but if you wanted to... I believe the only ways are to either find a handgun being sold as a consignment at a firearms dealer or a family member transfered the handgun to you.

According to the link below you may be able to transfer one of your handguns to your parents and then have dear ol mom or dad transfer it to your sister. If it has hi-cap magazines, more than 10 rounds, keep them and find ones that hold 10 or less.

She's technically a pa resident still. She's going to school out there.

I was hoping she could just take one of mine back out with her (gift to mom. Mom gifts to her).

Hmm mm mm. More research is required. Thanks man.

Just don't give her anything with Hi-cap magazines. It doesn't matter where you are a resident. I would call a gun shop in California and ask them some questions about out of state resident possessing a handgun in California. They should be up to date on current legalities there.

I no longer go to that communist state. Sorry. I would suggest post up in either the Socal section or the Norcal section.

Here's a legit local shop:

California Police Equipment
4151 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92105
(619) 280-1199

Mostly cater to LEO's, but they are open to the public. Most up-to-date and knowledgeable shop around these parts on legalities and whatnot.
