Big Bear Beginners Run 11-5-11 Trip Report

Rebels,
Our first outing of the 2011 Winter season is in the books! 54 eager 4x4s met us at the Big Bear Discovery Center bright eyed and bushy tailed Saturday morning. Fresh snow from the previous day's storm blanketed the entire mountain. After tire air downs we had our quick driver's meeting including introductions, safety tips for driving in the snow, and of course our giveaway!

Congratulations to Peter Dewhurst for winning the Star Fabricating Smart Door Upgrade kit!

Our Intermediate Group led by longtime friend and Axial Racing rep Randall Davis took off just before the Beginner's Group. On the menu for their 15 vehicle group: Holcomb Creek. Stay tuned for his trip report to be posted later this week.

The beginner group winded it's way after a quick highway drive to the trail head for White Mountain. The scenery couldn't have been prettier. Snow covered trees, untouched drifts, and fresh snow tracks. Postcard photographers should have been in attendance.

Mother Nature however had other plans for our group. The trail leading up White Mountain was completely washed out from the recent rain and was too difficult for our beginner group. 31's and 33;s just didn't have enough snuff to climb up the rutted road. The rest of the day was easy trail running and a few hill climbs that challenged the newer and closer to stock Jeeps. We only had to pull out the recovery strap a few times despite the muddy roads and slick terrain.

Around 4pm we called it a day and headed back into Big Bear to meet at Nottingham's Tavern. Dinner and drinks capped off a perfect wheeling day in the mountain. Thank you all who attended – look forward to our next Big Bear Adventure!

We had more fun. Mostly because we had the only RED Jeep in the crowd.
