Lol, I'd just passed through that one when this was snapped and remember thinking the same thing. There are a number of these spots along the way, one was right past our campground on the second day, way off camber, with a big hole on the right side. My passenger saw it and went "hey, I'll spot!", jumped out pronto. No real issue but a butt clincher for sure.
I wouldn't have wanted to do that run without some maps & coordinates. Your trip report was a big help, as were a number of other ones post the 2006 washout of Lake Canyon. For anyone reading this, in fall 2006 the old trail was washed out by a massive flood at Lake Canyon. Since then the county connected the Nokai Dome road with Hole In the Rock west of Lake Canyon. Veterans say the new route is a bit bigger challenge. So, if you're planning on running the trail be sure to disregard trip reports pre-2006, as they'll not even get you started on the right trailhead.
