Halloween @ CALICO 10/30/11

My club went out to Calico for a little Halloween Haunt! Sadly.... the level of holiday festivity was down.... but festive we were! Lots of fun with old and new friends. A couple of clubs joined us for the run, Rebel Chapter and Tri-County.... both seemed like a bunch of great guys and hopefully next time I get to wheel with them.

As we've been doing on some of the runs to spots where we have a big group with differing skill levels, we broke into two groups.... one mild, one wild. The mild group ran Doran and Odessa (pics can be found here, although there are no JKs in those pics). The wild group ran Scrambler Canyon and the Gatekeeper multiple times.

I am still acquiring pics and videos from the guys I was with. I am posting a few good ones that I have now and might post more if I get any worth posting. I will also compile a nice video for you guys to enjoy (or hopefully).

A little off topic, but... I have to tell you. I have one of those Flip Video Cameras. I was really hot for it for a long time.... but am now realizing it sucks! Don't get me wrong.... it is easy to use, fast to use, and takes incredible footage.... BUT, the battery sucks, is not replaceable, and is limited in memory. So.... while you get about two hours of HD footage... I have found that it isn't nearly enough and I loose a lot of good potential video over this.

Carnage was light... besides a ton of new dents and scratches all around, we lost a door (pic below), snapped an axle, one flop, and ??? All in all.... not a bad run!

Anyways... no one cares about the wall of words... you guys want pics!

Scroll down for more pics and a video or three.

Haha... OBA. Yes, he's got a full sized compressor on his bed... he rocks!

Here is another couple of decent ones I found floating on MJR. I love finding pics out there that someone else took.

Hopefully there is more footage of him in the next video I make.... he certainly is fun to wheel with and watch... he obviously doesn't give a rat's ass about anything other than making forward progress. That was rather mild compared to the last time we ran Scrambler..... he literary ripped off his slider which took the cab with it! He's a beast to say the least.

Awesome vid! Tilly always provides the best pics, massive sheet-metal carnage on every trip. Cant wait till the rock-crawling diesel Suburban is back in action!

That video rocked! How do those EVO sliders hold up? Have they pushed into the body at all?
Those sliders just scream tough! Thanx for the vid

Thanks! The Suburban should be done in December.... we're talking about a shakedown in Palmdale and then if all goes well.... maybe celebrate x-mas at the Hammers or do you want to show us Ridgecrest?

Thanks!! The EVO sliders rock. I can't say enough good things about them and I've beat on them pretty hard. They did come up into the pinch seam a tad.... but that was purely installation error. There were no instructions and we thought 3/16" was enough space from the pinch seam.... really, it needs about twice that. I am not at all keen on the fact that EVO is in bead with WOG, but he does make some stout shit and I would buy from him again.

I've seen these on a couple of rigs and they look stout, and I like the way they look, just haven't seen them get the abuse like in your video. Its def a no joke piece of armor. Thanx again for the vid, I'll be getting some these.

Paul.... he was jealous of Randy and his "big Sexy" monkier.... so I had to think one up for him. At the time, I didn't know him well enough and just used what I had. He's yellow and it was 95 degrees out when I was thinking this up.... so hot; therefore, you get Asian Sexy. He's a great guy and hopefully gets out wheeling more... as you can see, he'll follow me into a canyon, so he's not too worried about that beautiful heep. I am not sure he's crazy enough to follow you.... that is just nucking futs!

Umm.... I don't think too many others go into there. I picked up Ryan's flare, plus a few other things from his roll and Mark's extraction. I lost some of it on the way out, so it's probably still in the canyon, just a few feet further up the trail. Next time I am loading up the back of the burb!

And the waterfall.... nope, I vaginaed out on that one. I started up it, started getting way to close to a back flip and decided to go around.... Mark's comment when I was done was that, "Tilly's way was way easier" (he took the waterfall as you can see in the video). I don't know about that.... maybe if I had the 18 inches or so of additional wheelbase he has? Then Paul started up it and I was surprised.... but they all had a plan that I was unaware of.... he winched up it.

You done with your stretch and suspension yet? When you are and have a bunch of lessons learned, let me pick your brain for a tad. Now that I am going to drop a sixty in the rear, maybe I'll add some more flex and wheelbase?

Damn that waterfall!

Im just glad I made it up that waterfall before my stretch, that way yall can't use wheelbase as an excuse

I have a feeling that nobody but Infectious and the Trailblazers run that trail. Most probably wouldn't have the balls to even drop into that canyon from the road.

If anyone could even figure out how to get into the road that leads there, they'd likely assume the drop in wasn't to anything, as you can't see the hairpin at the bottom. If they did notice there was more there.... I am sure most would do exactly as you said and turn away.

Wheelbase....

Here's another on Odessa of me on my side and the extraction.

Calico - Odessa Canyon - 30OCT11 - YouTube

There was next to no damage!! The only things lost were the mirror and tail lamp (which was bungeed on anyhow) and a few scratches on the PSC flares.

Larry and Scott.... before you say it, yeah whatever... don't fret if I get any on you.
