SouthWest CrawlFest 2011

Drove up to St. George, Utah, this past weekend to attend the CrawlFest. Got to see my buddy Kha from Florida, Adam from Rebel Offroad, Del Albright and of course the Poison Spyder crew. There are tons of pics on the Rebel Offroad and PSC Facebook pages but here are a couple of the highlight shots off of my camera.

By now everyone knows what happend to Adam's rig on Friday. Rig was put back together Friday night and we lined up to wheel on Saturday morning..

Did not take too long for the trail to start getting fun..

Lots of fun obstacles to play on..

Silly Toyota thought he could hang with the Jeeps..

At this point the trail entered a slot canyon and the Hummers fell in behind me..

One of the many ledges..

At the top, when you crawl out, this LJ had a very close call..

The Saturday crew...

Great Dune to play on..

My son autographing Adam's new piece of wall art. Everyone on the run signed his mangled hood.

Larry and Cheri from Poison Spyder slept in on Sunday morning and my youngest son was not happy about not getting access to the Spyder lounge..

This was the most extreme obstacle on the Sunday ride. Adam took the bypass and staged up top in the event I needed a strap..

Once you cleared the big mamma wall you had a second wall but this one was more of a straight shot so it was not as intense..

The Sunday Trail crew..

Following Adam up another series of ledges..

As luck would have it, I clear a bunch of technical obstacles and then, on what should be a routine ledge, my day comes to an end with a busted yoke, u-joint and I bent the end of the strap on the driveshaft side.

The same guy, Jessie, that put Adam's rig back together after he rolled was able to locate a Tom Woods Yoke and get me back on the road so I could return to Phoenix. This is what my yoke looked like...

Jessie has a backyard garage that puts some shops to shame. He had every tool you could want plus welders, torches, two lifts, plus, plus, plus. They take their wheeling in SW Utah very seriously.

The trails and local wheelers outside St. George and Hurricane are some of the best and I can't wait to go back.

Ah, the Jeepskins. Driving up from Phoenix I lost a panel on the drivers side. On Saturday I ran them on just the passenger side. Because the Poison Spyder brigade rolled out on Sunday morning and I was not planning to run around town with just one side I gave them the one good side I had to take home, use for photoshoots, whatever, and I will get a complete set of new ones. Hence no Jeepskins on the Sunday trail day.

The Jeepskins you see in the pics are the original version that is much thinner and weaker magnetically then the ones they now make. Even the thin ones I had were fine for running around town but once I was on the two lane road between here and Vegas and trucks were zipping by me at 80mph the other direction and two feet away they were not strong enough for that blast of wind.

great ride moose!!!!

In 2009 a crack commando wheelin' unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the South Florida underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as wheelers of fortune. If you have a problem. If no one else can help. And if you can find them. Maybe you can wheel with The 50/50 Off-Road Team.
