Shakedown run For a shakedown run before Moab

We went to Kansas Rocks for a shakedown run before our SMORR shakedown run, which is a shakedown for our Moab trip. We had a great pace, starting out in the South 40 and working our way North towards Carnage Canyon and Zuke's Squeeze. We had a respectable mix of rig capabilities but most were JK Unlimiteds. The largest was a 2015 JKU Rubicon on Dana 60 axles, 38.9" Toyo Mud Country tires and a 5.7l Hemi. Another JKU had a Sprintex supercharger. This was the LJ Rubicon's maiden voyage after being saved from a local dealership. The guys at Stomper Offroad in Olathe, KS put JK Rubicon axles under it with a Metalcloak long arm kit, which substantially lengthened the wheelbase. At the end of the day, which we'll call "lunchtime", the red Hemi JK ("Bass Mouth") snapped a Fusion tie rod. As he was climbing Zuke's Squeeze a rock was pulled up between the tire and frame, which split the cast tie rod end. Ironically, nobody brought a trailer. So we had to wait for a very good friend who was owed a lot of tacos and chicken wings, to drive his trailer down with a replacement Synergy tie rod (temporary).

I'll check with him and update if you're right. I'm not familiar with D60 tie rods and "Ruff Stuff" is what I heard while they were working on it.

It is. Anything can break and the way the rock went in, it was going to fail and it is far better it be a simple tie rod end than a ball joint or knuckle. That is also why we have a lifetime warranty and new parts on the way.

I don't think any tie rod in the world could withstand what happened. You've got a stout product and the owner is more than happy to continue running it.

I'd probably throw a spare end in the jeep. I carry a spare for my tie rod and drag link.
