Another Darnell Creek wheeling trip in NC

Two weeks ago, I received a picture texted to me from a friend of mine (ajmg8tr). It's a picture of a brand new, 2010 Rescue Green Unlimited Sport JK with the top down on a bright sunny day with a caption that read, "My new toy. Thought you might like."

Well, me likey.

I called him up a minutes later and told him his Jeep was too clean and he needed to get it dirty. So we invited him and his wonderful wife and beautiful kids to spend the weekend with us at our mountain home near Darnell Creek. We hit the trails on Saturday and had a wonderful time. The weather cooperated and while it was 95+ degrees in the city, it never got above 75 degress at our altitude!

Here are some pics of our weekend:

We went canoeing the next day on the New River and had a blast!

Yeah! Well, we try to "tread lightly" and not use the creekbed often, but there aren't that many places to set your Jeep aside and camp, so we chose as area of the creek that is most shallow and narrow, to minimize damage to the soil, rocks, etc. There aren't that many fish in the shallow areas anyways - maybe an occassional NC Box Turtle. Besides, the road runs across the creek 20 times, so it's not like the creek never comes in contact with vehicles.

We're going back middle of August for another weekend! Can't wait. I'll post a new thread in the events forum to see if we can get some more of us out there. It's really nice.

At this particular place, any Jeep will make it with no problem. The trails are very light, but tons of fun.

In general, I think if you have the right equipment and know how to drive well, there's no place a 4-door can't go.

I'll post on the forum when we'll be there next. We want to plan a trip for mid-August.
