Project Rock Racer by Rock Krawler Suspension

We are setting out to build the best suspension system for the JK we have ever built. The concept is coil over and bypass up front, out back 3 link with no track bar, no gas tank modification, trailing arms with coil overs and bypass shocks mid mounted on the fabricated arms. But, in order to test, tune and develop a new suspension, we have to build a vehicle to test it! Follow along as our Project Rock Racer comes to life with some of the best products and best craftsmanship in the industry..

Here is the rendering concept we are shooting for!

We started the project with a base 2014 JK 2 door. We really feel Jeeps are built, not bought.

The body work and body mods are being done by Jeep Works Ltd. This is the very same company that makes the JKL (Standard 2 Door Stretched in the middle) as well as did a lot of the Body and Frame Mods on Poison Spyder's Ultra 4 JK aka "Crispy". Jeep Works does some of the best body mods and frame alterations in the country.

A full and customized Poison Spyder armor wrap will be going on the rig to make room for some new Falken Wild Peak MT's in 38"x13.5" and maybe an optional paddle tire in the rear...

Stay tuned as this build will be progressing pretty quickly... We hope you enjoy it...

Whats the upgrade-ability options for those with RK kits already? I have the 3-link rear mid-arm 3.5" kit. Was planning to go long arm in the future, but this looks sick already.

As far as upgradeability is concerned, there will always be that possibility with us. We always want to give our great customers that option...

The paddle tires will be for the sand dunes! Why not right?

Now that the new F150 is the daily driver/ work truck the Heap can get some serious upgrades......

Wider axles are a must, right?

A lot of custom work was done by Jeep Works forming the corners to fit the 6" rear stretch and the 38" Falken WildPeak MT's and the 38" Paddle Tires...

The Poison Spyder Flares were shaped to match the cutout and new axle position in the back!

Since we will be running a RIPP Super Charger and hammering the living Dog Snot out of this poor little JK, we are expecting the under hood temperatures to climb quite a bit over normal. We have selected a TOTL Heat Reduction Hood to aid with lower the under hood temps and add the aggressive style we are looking for on this build...

More to come on the build...

We won't be racing this in 2015 or at least the first half of the year. We have to get the systems dialed in first.. We still have our LJ for racing...

The JK is out of paint with all the body panels smoothed. Jeep Works did a great job matching up all the lines of the vehicle. If you ever want to have a Jeep built that requires some body work or are looking for something completely custom, definitely contact Jeep Works in AZ. They are the originator of the JKL Wrangler and can do just about anything.

Just for some good measure and fun in the Dunes, we had Skat Trak Tires make us up some custom 38" Paddle Tires.

As many of our original mounting points are carried over as possible so the possibility of upgrading will certainly be there.

You've got paddle tires for sand, but then you added a ton of armor to the Jeep. For sand you want light weight, as light as possible. Looks like your primary use is going to be rocks, and sand was an after thought. It looks good though, really good. Body work came together nicely.

What are you running for axles and gearing?

Nah, we want this vehicle to be right at home in many conditions. We are heading to Glamis with it right after Off Road Expo. We want it to be fun to drive on the street, great in the rocks, and fun in the sand...

For the Rock Racer Kits we will require a minimum WMS of 67 3/4, A Wheel Back Spacing of 3.5 or less for 37 to 40 " tall tires wether you are building a 2 door or a 4 door... We need this kind of room in order to get the coil overs and bypass shocks mounted in the wheel wells on the rear trailing arms.

For axles, we have chosen Dynatrac Pro Rocks Front and Rear. Dynatrac makes some of the best axle assemblies and housings in the industry. For this type of build, they actually make "Builder Kit" axles which are housings with ends welded on them to a specified WMS where you weld on the brackets you want.. This is perfect for this type of build.

For traction devices, there are many lockers out there that work very well. Since our Rock Racer JK will be driven on the street quite a bit we want to have selectable lockers. There are some great selectable lockers out there, some use air actuation, some use a mechanical cable, while some use a 12V power source. We chose the Eaton E Lockers for this build. They are robust lockers that work off a 12V power source. Their overall simplicity, the fact that they do not need another system to operate, and the fact that if you fray a wire connection, it can be easily field repaired make them our logical choice for traction aids...

For the gears, who chose 5.13's from Nitro Gear. There are many sources for gears around, but the quality and customer service from Nitro Gear has been great. We use them a lot on builds we do here...
