Big Agnes - Sleeping bag system

Thought I would share this cool little sleeping "system" - I have slept on my share of crappy surfaces... this ain't one of them! I originally purchased it for motorcycle trips when packing light was the only option and it is still my go-to bag. My old system a cold weather US Army issue bag and a foam pad for everything but the Big Agnes setup is just plain smart. Instead of a sleeping bag on top of a pad - it integrates the pad (air up.. and they even have memory foam now!) into the bottom of the bag - which means that you will not roll off of it in the middle of the night! There are many bags/pads to choose from. I have the Buffalo Park which is a 40deg bag - I took it to Alaska on a hunting trip and we slept on the snow (in a tent) - the pad (I have the "Two Track" pad) acts as an insulator from the ground and I used my trusty Army issue poncho liner for some extra warmth and was good to go for two weeks in the woods. I have had it for 10 years and it is still good as new.

There is no "fill" on the underside of the bag - makes it lighter and packs better - as stated the pad is what insulates you from the ground.

So if you are in the market for a sleeping bag - check these out! I am going to pick one up for Lil'G...

You can still forget the pad lol.... it is a two piece system. The bag is only insulated on the top (as per temp rating) the bottom is basically a sleeve to hold the pad that slips in and is secured into place. The air valve is easy to get to even when the pad is inserted. I usually blow it up as much as I can then let the air out to where it feels comfortable once inside the bag.

You can even zip two together if you can't stand to be away from your significant other...
