4.10 gear swap

Hello all.

I was looking at Summit Racing for new gears and saw something funny i was hoping someone could help with.

I have the stock 3.21 gears in my 2008 sahara 2 door... the gears I was looking at were 4:10's and the were for a carrier that was 3.73 and numerically lower...

I was under the impression that I was going to have to change my carriers as well as gears. Are there 4:10s that will fit in the smaller carrier or am I misunderstanding...

also I assume that I should do the gears and lockers at the same time...????

As far as I know the carriers are for 3.73 and numerically higher. Therefore you would require a new carrier if you were re-gearing, unless you did a locker.

Are you sure you were looking at JK d30 gears?

And yes, doing gears and lockers at the same time saves money. The shop won't have to tear the axle apart a second time. Also, if you get a full case locker (not a lunchbox type) you will not need to buy a new carrier.

The d44 does not need a new carrier. Only the d30.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I didn't even think about this. I have a 2014 Rubicon with factory 3.73's.. I just snagged some 4.10's from a RubiX - would i need a different carrier?
