Regear and Speedo Calibration

regeared my X from 3.21's to 4.10's. Actually feels like a Jeep now. Checking the speedo vs Garmin GPS shows the speedo to be correct. How can this be? The shop that did the work did NOT recalibrate the speedo. What am I not understanding?

*I think* it is based on tire rotation. This is why when someone puts on 35's they see a change in mph. Hopefully someone can be a little of technical than me.

That has to be it.. maybe it reads from something like the abs ring or ?? what I don't know.. but that's cool that it does I guess.. we've got 40 mph winds here today and the Jeep will buck it in 6th ... didn't happen with 3.21's. Mileage change coming I'm sure..

I believe the speedo is calibrated from the ABS rings, not the tranny or t-case, so gear change doesn't affect it.

For those who have an auto, they still want to let the computer know the gearing for shift points, though.

Going from 3.21's, I'm assuming you have a 6M, so you should be fine.
