Scrambler84s - 2012 Unlimited Red Rubi Build - Big Red

Scrambler84s - 2012 Unlimited Red Rubi build

Big Red

Bought 2012 Unlimited Rubicon at Waldorf Chrysler Jeep after searching for a red 6spd with out lots of crap on it for 3 months. Left the lot with 17 miles on it.

1st JK, Old 2010 Unlimited Rubicon build - Great White

Current Build Picture

Planned
Front Drive shaft
Poison Spyder Customs - JK 4-Door Trail Cage C-Pillar Kit - p/n 18-18-030
Poison Spyder Customs - 3/16" evap can skid ( stock one is like 1/16th maybe really like sheetmetal )
Poly Performance / Synergy Suspension Jeep JK Rear Long Travel Upper Shock Mount

On Order
River Raider Off Road - 3/16" Steel skid plates full set

On hand and needs installed

Installed
AEV - 3.5" Dual Sport lift (same as was on my 2010)
Bestop - soft top disconnects (remove soft top with out removing rear roll cage brackets)
BFGoodrich - 35x15x12.5 KM2s
Cragger - Steel 15x10s on 5x5
Crown - 7" brake line extenstions (red)
MOPAR - black plastic door sill guards (keeps kids from destroying the door sill when lifted)
MOPAR - hitch and Y cable and 4 pin harness
MOPAR - 2010 Hardtop - no leaks no wind, noise, no wiring harness yet for wiper and defrost
Poison Spyder Customs - Brawler Lite Front Bumper with Brawler Bar
Poison Spyder Customs - JK RockBrawler Rear Bumper with Tire Carrier
Poly Performance / Synergy Suspension - rear lower control arm (LCA) skid and shock relocation bracket
Poly Performance - heavy duty tie rod
Rigid Industries - Rigid dually 2x2 LED Lights
Skid Row - front lower control arm (LCA) skids
SPIDERWEBSHADE - JK4D TrailMesh
Superwinch - 12.5k Talon with poly line
Tera Flex - Exhaust Extensions
Wilson's Jeep Shop - Heavy Duty CB Mount

On Hand Spares
Front and Rear drive shafts, front LCA, rear LCA

Day 1 - Good bye to an old friend

Day 1 - At home

Day 2 - Taking bumper off removing fog light housings and disconnected wiring for install in new bumper

Day 2 - Poison Spyder Brawler Light Bumper installed - Pic at OCC meeting at Kilroy's

Day 3 - Superwinch 12.5k Install - winch sitting on bumper picture a little blurry sry

Day 3 - Superwinch 12.5k Install - Engine compartment and routing, used some liquid tight to run the cables in to prevent abrasion. I had to notch the battery holder shell to run cable into the battery and they turned battery 90 degrees so the cable is short and has to run across top of battery

Day 3 - Superwinch 12.5k Install - Complete, used some RTV around the liquid tight plastic conduit and the battery cables to seal them up, dont want water inside.

Day 5 - SPIDERWEBSHADE JK4D TrailMesh

Day 7 - Rigid Industries - dually 2x2 light install

Day 7 - Rigid Industries - dually 2x2 light install

I installed my 2010 JKU Hard top on my 2012, everything fits well and is pretty tight, no wind noise and passed the hose spray test shot directly in the seals for good 5 mins all around, gonna leave it on until it rains a few times for a good real world test. All holes line up, 2 bolts front and 6 bolts rear, the last 2 rear bolt holes are a bit different in that one side of the notch is missing on the tub and you have to hold the clip/nut piece up until it threads, when removed the can be stored in the hardtop storage bin the back of the Jeep. I'll update this when it rains. I had this top left from my 2010 and hoping to save about $2400 for a new one or the 1600 for dual top group. I don't have the wiring in the 2012 to run the wiper or the hose for the fluid squirter in the back (yes its a technical term lol)

Disclaimer: I'm not recommending this to any and can't be held responsible when yours leaks or flies off going down the road ect. if you do the same thing. Just passing along information as found for the new 2012s.

Day 11 - 2010 MOPAR Hardtop installed on the 2012, no wiper power or squirty fluid(technical term)

Day 11 - 2010 MOPAR Hardtop installed on the 2012

Day 50 - Put on these Rear Lower Control Arm Skids with Shock Mount
http://www.quadratec.com/products/16315_6408.htm

They bring the shock mounts up about 1.5 inches and have built 3/16 skid to make smaller strong rock targets

Shock mounts cut off and painted to stop the rust

3rd Brake Light Plate

I cut a plate to mount to the PSC high lift jack mount and I cut the OEM stock 3rd brake light loose from OEM mount and rerouted wiring so I could mount it in semi stock location above tire. hole in center allows for stock wiring connector to fit through bracket, making light removable.

Rear Tag light center of tire plate fabbed up with light hooked to hitch wiring

Fabricated CB Mount

Wilson's Jeep Shop - Heavy Duty CB Mount for 2007 - 2012 JK

Fully adjust able and short enough to keep the metal off the plastic of the center console. Very solid made from 1/8 plate for seat bracket and 3/16 channel for the swing arm. All made from scrap metal I had laying around.

Mount Drawing

Mount, straight on above

Mount, on angle to show bolts ect.

Mount, from door

Added plate across the front to help hold CB case together

Looks great! Congrats on the great looking JK! How is drivability with the 35's and 6-speed (guessing you have 4.10 gears in the D44s)?

35s and 6-speed will still break the tires lose and make a chirp and don't have to downshift to pass above 60 Mph, drives fine on highway MPG around 19-20, can't complain. Beats the 2010 I had with 15-16 mpg.

I used rustoleum paint and their self etching primer. Works great, used it on my skids from my 2010.

The Zip tie bracket worked till I got the other one made up inside the spare tire.
