Shifter cable issues!!!

Well we all know about the shitty plastic grommets that hold the transfer case shifter cable, well I have had that issue in the past but now my shifter was freely moving and left my transmission stuck in reverse, well I crawled underneath the jeep to find out that my shifter cable got loose from the transmission shifter lever and looking deeper I found out it was the same system they use on the transfer case cable and same issue the plastic grommet cracked an the cable eye came off the lever, well I had a couple of spare plastic grommets for the transfer case cable, I replaced it but now the grommet won't stay on the lever, it seems that the inside diameter of the grommet is slightly bigger than the transmission lever rod, so now I find myself crawling underneath the jeep pretty often to put the cable back in place!!
Does anybody has had this issue?? Is this plastic grommet different than the one for the transfer case?? Is there abetter way to fix and get rid of this poorly design plastic grommets? Any suggestions on what can be done to fix this once and forever?

Ive got some buddys that this happened to..they put the cable back in place and put a cotter pin around the metal sleeve under the cable and have been running it that way for over a year now..they spread the pin open and forced it tight then wrapped it around.

Take a look at advance adapters..they make a new shifter kit that's all steel and a beefy cable! It's on my list of buys
