Best way to recenter axle?

How do you guys recenter your axle? Where do you measure from? I'm curious to know I installed a rockkrawler 3.5in x factor kit installed everything to spec as in the instructions. I've measured on both sides and it looks dead even I just want to no how everyone else does to so I can do it the correct way.

Don't measure off the body, there's too much build tolerance slop side to side in the body mounts, flares, etc. Measure from the outside of the frame rail to the inside wall of the tire. Use the same spot on each side, taking care not to include any frame brackets or tire lettering that could throw your measurements off. Get it to within at least 1/8" (perfect is better) and you'll be good to go.

I find center on the axle by measuring ball joint stud to ball joint stud. Then I permanantly mark the axle with a 4" grinder. See the straight rust mark in the picture on the passenger side third member housing.

I then measure center on the round tube behind the radiator and mark. Hang a plumb bob from that tube location, and align with axle mark. Good part, the permanant marks make it easy for the next mod.

Keep in mind if the jeep is not set up on perfectly level ground your measurements off the plum line will be skewed twards the low side (Just a tip)

Also a straight edge held to the face of the hub (Tires off and lug nuts back on) measured to the frame rail works like a charm. I have a couple brackets from doing several Dodge track bar conversions that you actually just slip it over a stud and THEN run the lugs down.
