noob D44 question

I have an 07 wrangler x with a stock d30 up front. I may have a chance to pick up a rubicon d44 axle housing for the front only. If I plan to run front and rear ARB lockers, will this axle work with my non rubi d44 rear...I know the gear ratio needs to be the same but is there anything else I need to make them compatible?

Completely opposite entities aside from the gear ratio needing to be the same. Scoop it up.

Your brakes and knuckles from your dana 30 will swap right on to it, you will need new 35 spline axle shafts, inner seals, the arb locker, gear set, and a master install kit with bearings. You will have to drill and tap the housing for the air line.

^^^ that pretty much sums it up. You will only need to swap over the knuckles from the D30 if the 44 you're getting doesn't already have them. And you don't HAVE to get new 35 spline axle shafts for the front if you're buying it with the axle shafts included. Gear ratios need to be the same in both axles. And be sure when you buy the ARB locker that you tell them you have a front D44 (out of a Rubi) and a rear STANDARD D44. The reason I say this is because the Rubicon rear D44 is 32 spline i believe and the Non Rubi rear axle is 30 spline axle shafts. You just want to be sure to order the correct locker to go with whatever axle shafts you have. I hope I didn't confuse you.

ARB does not make a locker for the stock rubi front axle shafts and you will have to get an aftermarket 35 spline axle shaft to use it. Same with the rear rubi axle, you need a 35 spline 1.5" shaft. The non rubi rear dana 44 uses a 30 spline 1.31" axle.

Thanks for all of the good info guys. I'm trying to decide if I want to scoop this up or save for a pr44.

No problem.

You have a 2dr or 4dr? How big of tires are you planning? The Rubicon axle should be sleeved and the inner C's should be gusseted as well as new axle shafts if you're planning on anything larger than 33's, so you might want to factor that into the equation as well. I'd also recommend Lower Control Arm skids, as they are pretty thin on stock JK axles. The PR44 housing is pretty beefy and shouldn't need much besides the axle shafts and the ARB. Just depends on what you plan to do to/with your jeep, how you drive, and how much you want to spend. If you can get that Rubi axle for pretty cheap, you can build a pretty nice front axle for considerably less than the PR44. Though that PR44 is a pretty damn nice axle and can be set up to do pretty much anything you could want with your Jeep.

I have a 2dr on 35s. I also thinking about building up my d30 but this d44 popped up. Right now my 30 has EVO gusstes and lca skids. I was thinking of running 5.13s, chromoly axles, an arb and sleeves.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing. PM me if you have any questions.

D44/ARB/RCV shafts/Reid knuckles

I'm going with the Poly outer shell kit with stronger brackets. The best part was cutting off all the old brackets with a plasma.

Damn the cannons, full speed ahead! |

Ditto. Drive it til it dies, then get an aftermarket axle and rock on. I have a Rubi, sleeved & gusseted the 44 and will run it until it gives up the ghost. Then it'll be a call to Dynatrac or Tera for a housing.
