2011 or wait for the 2012??

I need your expert opinions guys. Dying to by a Jeep, and I know the 2012 is supposed to get an updated engine with lots more ponies (which it disparately needs). I love the JK 4 door the way it looks now and I'm worried that they will jack up the styling. Additionally, I've never been a fan of 1st year engines. Thoughts?

Question

There's nothing wrong with a 2011, I really don't think the 2012's will change much in styling. The new V6 will have more power, don't expect it to be a hemi though.

A shorter list is what vehicles hasn't this motor been placed in. So far, they are all 3.6.

So it's clearly well tested then. Damn...really want to get my Jeep, not sure I can wait! But geared right with the new motor and it should have plenty of giddy up.

There have been questions come up on the forum before about the 2011 and 2010 JK and the changes being made. I pass this along just as an fyi....

I would wait for 2012, unless you can get a smoking deal on a 2011 on the lot right now.

X2, I'd wait on the 12. The extra power will be worth it.

If your an auto fan, the '12's will come with the 545rfe, which will be a huge improvement, imo.

The current 42re had four gears with 3rd at 1:1 and OD 4th at .67:1. Its just too big a jump and highway downshifts cause too much drama as a result.

The 545rfe has the same gears through 3rd, at 1:1 and its 5th is almost the same as the 42re's 4th at .69:1, but is has its 4th in between and its .75:1. No more huge dramatic downshift = huge improvement.

I have the 545rfe behind a Hemi and its a hell of a lot better than the four speed.

I'd wait either way! They'll be giving 2011s away even moreso when the 2012s hit the floor and people have a choice.

If you want a taste of the 3.6L go drive a new Grand Cherokee. I rented one for a few days last year and while the seat of the pants dyno isn't all that impressed, the speedometer reading 90 when I thought I was doing about 70 was impressive.

Wait. You'll be glad you did, even if it means you get a smoking deal on a left over 11.

Marcus

it's killing me too man. The xj i bought as a 3rd vehicle needs the motor rebuilt. I was going to trade it in on a new JK rather than wait but know i'll kick myself if i do that.

80 more HP and a 5 speed auto... i just keep repeating that to myself lol

We could team up and find you a cheap motor for that XJ! You know you'd miss it! Ha ha!

I'd wait on the '12's and then compare.

I'd wait for 2012 so you can hear all the people bitching about the 3.6L.

Just take the engine out of Marcus's shiny new XJ. I'm sure he wouldn't mind...

Wait for the '12 to hit the showroom floors, get a smokin deal on an '11, then have Jeff's Jeep yard drop in a 4BT diesel.
Less money than a Hemi swap. More torque than a Hemi. More MPG than a Hemi. Longer life than a Hemi.

Any questions?

I dunno, I hope to have 95% of my 2011's cleared out by Sept 1st. So far the 2011's are still selling well. No announcements will be made til at least September so I would not expect any rebates til then if any we are trending less rebates the last 6 months.

Thats a bummer on a 4.0. THey should be good for way longer than that. I always tell people 91-95 4.0ho is the way to go. I got 254000 on my 93.
99's should still be pre shit head problems.

The 3.8's seem to be holding up really well. But, more power and better gearing options for just about the same dollar value seems like a no brainer. Not to mention, the new motors should be much more fuel efficient. The architecture of the motor is much more modern than the current 3.8L...

We will be snagging a 2012 as soon as possible.

On the ones that you guys are ordering when do you expect them in? Understanding you wont know the exact day do you know which month? The dealer by me stated if they order they are expecting 100 days from order.
