Hinge for tire carrier?

Anyone of yous guys build your own tire carrier? What did you use for a hinge? I found this:

http://www.tmrcustoms.com/store/inde...70c24e0f080b0f

But I thought it was $$. Thought about going the chevy front spindle route or going to a trailer builder for the spindle setup. Any thoughts?

+1 on the A-to-Z hardware. Plus Zach is a great guy and actually wheels his stuff, both on trails and competitions. He doesn't sell crap and his prices are hard to beat.

Check out comp4x4 as well. They come with a sleeve. That was the buying point for me.

Thanks for the links. Very cool.
I wasn't super impressed with the roll pin in the sleeve from comp4x4. Is it that big of a problem to set the height of the carrier? The double shear bracket takes care of that, right?

I got the double sheer set up from com4x4, very beefy! Haven't had the time to finish my tire carrier but it looks like it'll hold up very well.
With the comp set up you weld the sleeve in then drop the spindle in the sleeve and use the roll pin and gusset to keep it from coming out. The idea being that you don't have to weld to the spindle, I guess this is a common failure point, the spindle actually breaks at the weld. Plus if for what ever reason you need to take your tire carrier off you just pull the role pin and all that's left behind is the whole where the spindle drops in.

^ exactly the comp4x4 spindle is designed to be removed. I never even tack welded the spindle to the sleeve. And if you are making your own base. The sleeve makes it much easier to do. Another benifit is if the carrier were to ever break. The whole carrier can be easily removed.
