and so jeepnick's epic baby vs RK 5.5 coilovers on 60's build thread begins!

i say baby vs build thread because nick and i started this a few days ago... i had a 10 day old baby at home when it started, and nick's wife is a few months away from their big day! so we are doing this build in 3-4 hour incriments whenever we can squeeze time to wrench in.

First day we pulled the rear axle and started tearing down the rear:

currie 60's are a little different than the stock 44 so we had to modify the rear truss a bit:

But we were able to get that ground down and on today:

this bolt will be fun to get to

I started burning in the LCA and 3 link brackets but we ran out of gas and then out of wire for the welder... so today was over

I'll keep updating as we go...

Good luck with the build and look forward to the result. Nick always makes nice upgrades, it has come along way. Getting started on mine next weekend.

Still praying for your family man.

Thanks man. That's part of the reason we have to do this in few hour incriments.

Why did you go with a 5.5 inch lift instead of 3.5?

Needed more height I've been dragging the belly of the jeep over everything and it's been limiting where I can go

We did have to modify the pure jeep sliders to be able to get the welder to the top of the rear lower lca brackets
Not to bad but definitely took a 8x4 piece out on each side

Grinding while laying on your back is not fun!!! If you were closer I'd let you borrow the hoist. If you guys get it done by this weekend, swing down this way, we're having a weekend ride!

we have access to 2 shops with lifts, and if we had 2 full days in a row where we could just work on it we could have used them. But we're squeezing in work days here and there. Like today i'm swinging by after work to burn in the rest of the mounts and then i'm headed home.

what's worse than grinding above your head? Welding above your FACE while laying on your back! the middle 3 link bracket is a pain! there's just no good angle to weld at while laying on your back. welding sparks on my neck suck!

I'm the same way about laying on my back when i do gears. I don't do them laying on the ground. it's just too tough on my back!

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Nick - you're jeep is definitely inspiration for my lil jeep...it goes to show how jeeps are never done. And how they are built, not bought.

Keep up the great work guys! With the new babies and wife, you guys planning on being at Topless for Tatas?

Sweet on grooving the tires. We know Falken's JK had them grooved in Moab and they worked really well out there.
