Do you really need exhaust skid plate?

I don't see many people discussing this thing - muffler/exhaust skid plate. Sure, if you bang it or even tear it off it will be loud, but will not stop you from getting from point A to point B. However, what will it cost to replace one if you indeed bang it too hard or rip it off on the trail? The location of the muffler suggests that any descend off of a tall rock will most likely bang it.
Guys that really use jeep for 4 wheeling, but yet your daily driver, what do you do for the muffler, protect, not protect? If protect how? If not protect, how much does it cost to get a replacement?

I have not bashed mine yet... but am tryin' like hell so I can upgrade.

I bashed the exhaust pipe on the first trip out... just cut it down with a sawzall. That was in 2009.

protect it by moving it!

get it up under the jeep where it belongs
if you have a 4dr its easy
with a 2dr, then might as well go ahead and relocate your evap can while youre at it to make room for the muffler

c'mon Ron, kick the $85 for a flowmaster, spend the 20 minutes to move it and get it done!

I have 4 door Rubi. Are you saying that I can actually move muffler to a different location to save it from banging on it?
Is there a write up for it?
