Superior chromo shattered

Broke a rear shaft yesterday. It was on its 3rd wheelin trip and grenades on a hill climb. I was a suprised that it broke but even more suprised that its going to take 6 weeks to get a replacement. Damn!

I have a jeep and it goes over shit.

Wow! Did you contact Superior? How hard were you gassing it? That seems starnge...cromo should not break, hell I'd think the R&Ps would break before cromo shafts. Were they 4340?

yeah, I talked to Superior today and they believe it may have been a bad axle. I am running 37" KM2's with 5:38 gears and an arb locker. It was about a 55 degree incline and I was on the gas pretty good but still should not have broken, there just wasn't enough traction to break an axle. I'm just bummed because its going to take so long to get a new one. I guess they are just so danged popular that Superior is running behind with them. I may have to put one of the stockers back in just to go play but I will need to buy a bearing and a new retainer plate and I hate spending money on a stocker. Oh well such is life. I definitely had a good couple of days up to that point.

Not really surprising to me...............steep hil very heavy rig & 37's. Normally it should hold up but enviroment dictates. Stick the spare back in a go for it.....

55į? HS! My old YJ threaten to roll backwards around that point. Just once. I never let it get that high again.
If I didn't have kids and had a 16 pound balls I might try that with my JK. Since I have kids and don't have 16 pound ball, I'll be avoiding "roll back" opportunities.

My 2 dr jk felt squirrely at that type of incline too but the 4 dr feels fine. There is a longer ledge to the right that is steeper that I have been up and that made me clinch up pretty good. And I could be wrong about the degree number too. Always seems to be steeper than it really is but if it was a roof I would say its about a 13/12 to 14/12 slope. I am now looking for a stock rear shaft 31 spline if anybody has one pm me
