Benchmark Oil Pan Question

I have a question for you guys out there that have the Benchmark Oil Pan.

I bought a used pan from a forum member. When I was cleaning off the old permatex I noticed that there is also a thin layer of silicone that goes around the mounting surface. Obviously the grey permatex is what was used when the previous owner installed the pan. The previous owner said the thin layer of clear silicone was on the pan was shipped from Benchmark.

Did you guys notice this thin layer of silicone when you installed your pan?

Does anyone have any way to contact Benchmark Designs other than the
phone number or email on their website? I would like to ask them if I need to apply a thin layer of silicone and let it dry before I reinstall the pan with some permatex.

I hope that I did not get one of the pans that they had issues with oil leaking and Benchmarks fix was to use a thin layer of silicone.

Benchmark may have put it on for rust prevention during storage and shipping. The first owner did not install it properly. Clean all mating surfaces before applying more RTV. A gasket scraper and carb cleaner does wonders.
