I have a 17 JKU Sport and I am looking at installing a 2.5" lift with 8 control arms. My question is why are some mfg's control arms tubular and some square? Which are stronger or is there literally no difference? I am not set on a lift yet. I am thinking that if the arms are square or tubular there should be no or little difference but I do not want to have any problems or have to replace arms down the road.
square or box steel " tubing" can equal a stronger alloy in DOM or aluminum rod but as far as one or the other , I think both are fine. You're looking at your box stock CAs and then some of that premium Clayton CAs,huh?
Fusion4x4 has some great aluminum arms , so does Currie with BILLET aluminum lowers that are boxed . Tho$e actually have replaceable skid plates on them , lol.
Synergy Mfg , Metal Cloak et al , have equally strong DOM ,hardened or zinc'ed tube arms that are also more than ample.
either should suffice. I don't think it's that much more strength , but probably a noticable variance..
iirc, Clayton has some info on their choice of box or square stock arms. those things are extremely strong & slide over stuff well. My highcleaan e Synergy arms are able to clear a lot of stuff that the straight arms might grind upon.
