JKU homemade front winch bumper

Hello again,

.......same story......I'm cheap but I like stuff, so I build my own. Today's thread is about my homemade front bumper. Some of you saw the half finished version at JK101 and here is the build...

This is my idea...

Off comes the bumper and I drilled 3 holes in the crossmember for angle brackets to the back of the winch plate for extra strength

I wanted no bolt heads on the front surface so I cut out bolt plates to weld 4 bolts to (each) as well as my 3/4 thick shackle mounts. The mounts are welded on both surfaces of the bolt plate, front and back.

I attach the front plate as well as the winch plate.

Now I start adding the tops and the sides. There is also a view of the backside showing the winch plate and it's braces

Front lawn test of installed winch and this is how I wheeled it at JK.

Get home, rip it off, add the stinger and finish the sides....fun compound angles!

Added a licence plate bracket and paint, just waiting for it to dry.

The entire thing cost approximately $120 in materials including paint. It took me about 35-40 hours of work, whenever I had the time/motivation. All work done with my PLasma cutter, stick welder, 4 1/2 angle grinder, chop saw, drill press and hand tools.

The paint is C-tire sourced "EZ-Liner" and at $10 a can I.m happy with how it went on and how good it bonds to the primer underneath.

Here she is all done and on the jeep! I had an extra grab handle sitting around so I press-ganged it into duty as my cable holder!

Looks good to me. Its nice when people say "Nice bumper, where'd you get it?" and your answer is "I made it". Same comment as other thread, larger pics next time. Oh and welcome to JKO.
