Not another DW thread but could it be a Christmas miracle?
I’m exhibiting symptoms of a shimmy/ wobble of sorts. Planman if you’re out there seeing this I am a new DIY-er and every time I have the slightest disturbance in my steering I hear your voice in my head going “this is not DW” or “this is DW” so, if the thanks of a thousand forum goers wasn’t enough— I appreciate you.
ANYHOW I recently started a brake job which turned into a complete top to bottom happy 165,000 mile birthday service venture and as many times as I took those GD 200lb rubber monsters off the car not once did I think “wow great time to do a tire rotation” except for literally every lug nut that came off I thought, man, I should really rotate these.
Jeep has mostly taken me to and from autozone for the last two months. Occasional trip to Home Depot but no wheeling, nothing long distance or extravagant. Until Tuesday. Took her out for a 52 mile round trip and you bet your ass we shimmied for 49.5 of those. On ramps, off ramps, corners, railroad tracks and every pothole Denver has to offer (there’s lots). I figured it’s Ball Joint o’clock and cringed at the war that would be myself and an unfit press.
I swung into discount tire today to pitifully request a 5 tire game of musical chairs as well as a balance. I made no mention of my wobble. Driving off the lot I felt an immediate difference in the handling and I was so confident I drove it out to the part of the metroplex we unlovingly refer to as “Kansas” and not a single shimmy shake or hula dance the entire journey. 35 miles of the shittiest highways in America and the JK was unscathed.
Am I nuts or did a tire balance cure what Planman would now refer to as “not DW” or did it simply mask it? Might I add, I took my steering stabilizer off this morning to fill the diff and “forgot” to put it back on. Anyone??
