Hey gang, just a heads up about a counterfeit part that I did not know that I had until it broke and I tried to get warranty coverage.
This was not a very expensive Jeep part but a counterfeit part none the less. The item in question is a Rugged Ridge dash kit.
It actually worked well for 3.5 years and I had no clue that it was counterfeit. It came in a factory looking package and was sold on amazon.
Anyway, fast forward to yesterday when I snapped the ball mount off. I logged a case with Omix Ada (parent of Rugged Ridge) and they asked for receipt and pics. Pretty typical these days. After sending in a copy of the receipt and the pics, they appologiezed and informed me that they have had a lot of counterfeits on this part and that they could tell it was counterfeit in the pics and the name of the seller on the receipt (Auxmart) is known counterfeiter.
I reported it to amazon and easily got 100% refund 3.5 years after the fact because it was counterfeit.
The way they could tell in the pic that it was a counterfeit is because the real one has their logo molded into the plastic on the front side of the bracket (windshield side). Mine has no logo at all.
Anyway, just a heads up. If you bought one on amazon from Auxmart, check for a logo on the front side (facing the windshield) of the base. You might have a fake.
I did not think that this was dirty laundry per se but if the thread needs to be moved, apologies in advance.
