Tire width and backspace?

Being new to JK's I'm still unclear as the max backspacing that can be used with a 12.5" wide tire?

Thanks, Linda

rim bs

hey there thought id chime in after i just went throught 3 sets of rims to get it perfect, i highly recommend a back space of 4.5 inches the offset should be slightly negative from 0mm to -25mm for example this works great for 17 inch rims if you do use a 15 inch which did u MUST use a backspace of 3.6 and a huge negative offset of -46mm example pro comp 8179s, only this much backspace allows you to clear brakes but puts much more stress on you wheel bearing tie rod ends and ball joints from my experience. get some 17x9, rims perfect with 4.5 backspace. remember the smaller the backspace number the wider it sticks out factory is 6.5 i think. more than 5 is too far under jeep less than 4 is too far out...goodluck i feel that most jk owners would agree

Max BS for an 8" wheel is probably 3.75". Anything less than 3.75 is going to stick out of the fender way too far IMHO.

I'm running a 16x8 wheel with 4.5 backspace with 35/12.50 tires and I couldn't be happier.

I Wish my wheels were 4.5 - 4.7" BS.. I Like how AEV's wheels pretty much stay underneath the factory flares.

I have 4" BS now on 15x8" wheels.. they stick out about an inch...

no jeep here...

Thanks guys! Sounds like 4.5" or less would be best...
