TJ Help? Removing Fan-Clutch assembly?

I posted this on a TJ forum, but no reply yet, and I'm usually here with our JK now, so I thought someone could help.

I did this a while ago on our TJ, but I'm helping a buddy replace a water pump and forget the trick to getting the fan and clutch assembly off, I've seen different designs, this one has the shaft betreen the pump & pully and the fan/clutch that takes like an 1 1/4 wrench, but spins. How do you break it loose? By the time I got back with the beer he had it almost apart, can't remember how I got the fan off.

It's a 2001 TJ

THanks!
