Another Hydro Assist question

Has anyone tried tapping the box or the tower on a JK steering box on their own? Trying to do hydro assist on the cheap...

I have the tools, just need to know where to drill and tap the holes.

Thanks

Mark

Dont quote me on this but I think where you would add the ports either requires a thicker casting or welding fittings on. I believe that area is aluminum & im not sure what quality the material is & how it would turn out.

You can buy the kit for $420...

The ram alone is $115.00
Hoses $75.00 +/-

Figure your paying $220.00 for the new ported cap.
Plus if you screw something up & waste the pump or have a failure on the trail your out more coin & headache.

Is the juice worth the squeeze ?

Check out that pic of the new cap. It will give you an idea of where your trying to tap into for pressure lines.

That is the kit that I just bought. See my post re: Power Assist Fluid. Their block will work if you have a pre 2010 JK. As I said in my post it works great. Eventually I will add the PSC pump, but it's not needed yet. At that price, I wasn't going to attempt to drill my own. The tower is $179. I built my own axle mount that reenforced the tracking bar mount too, and bought their tie rod clamp. Be sure and measure the stroke needed for the ram like they say on their tech site. I had to take the ram apart and build a longer block to shorten the stroke to match my needs.

That round silver thing in the picture is just a display stand.

No reason why you can't. If you need some pics of where WTO drill and tap just LMK.

Decided to just bite the bullet and get the PSC economy kit, would not save enough money to justify the risk of my daily driver being down due to a screw up...Thanks Thean!
