Front Axle + Snapped Off = Problems

Alright, take a look at the pic:

Yea, that's the front left side of the LA suspension arms snapped off of the front axle... The thing is, this is the factory axle and it only snapped off because it was "hit hard by something" that caused the metal to bend back and snap off.

The dealership says it's not covered because of the modifications, even though this was not caused by the modifications... Are they right?

I wouldn't expect it to be covered as it was hit by something.

It wouldn't be covered but not becaue of their reason. The mods have nothing to do with the failure, but it was caused by what we call in the biz, "outside influence". In other words, it wasn't caused by a manufacturer defect but by you playing too hard on the rocks. Like everyone has said, time to upgrade.

You're lucky...I wish something would break on mine so I could upgrade. My wife has finally halted the "upgrading" of things that aren't broken...

This is a D30... I've been looking for a reason to get a D44 sooner, but man, not on these terms.

Time for new LCA mounts. Been there, done that. I used the RK ones and really like them.

Here's a link with pictures.

Upgrade to a boxed 3/16" unit like Poly. Makes a huge difference!

ya but it's a 40 dollar bracket, some grinding and a few minutes of welding!

OP: if you can't weld, post in your area's section and i'm sure someone will burn them on for you.

But if he gets the estimate from Chrylser ... they will tell him $2500 ... He can take the $2500 check from insturance and swap that D30 for a D44 ..

If Soccer Mom hit's a curb in the Mall Parking lot in her JK and breaks the mount. She is gonna get a new axle from her insurance and Chrysler ... she ain't gonna have somebody weld on a $40 bracket ... so why should the OP ??

You guys are funny ... it's good to know that none of our insurance premiums are gonna go up now because the OP is gonna weld a bracket himself! You all need a reality check ....

I say claim it on insurance why have it if your not going to use it I recently flung mine into a tree on the trail and crushed in passenger side rocker panel. I also claimed several other items on the same claim. It allowed me install new shocks a new soft top and add poison spider rocker armor painted in contrasting green. And all it cost me was $300 I talked to my agent and they promised me my rates would not go up.

I figure I have spent enough on premiums over the years I mine as well get something out of it.

Those of ya'll freaking out about "everyone's rates going up" it's gonna take a lot more than a few jeep owners to cause that.

A few here, a few there... glad you guys can sleep at night cause it's all morally wrong and in the end affects us all no matter how you look at it. Premiums are based on claims and the insurance company is going to make a profit, the more they pay out the more they have to charge.

Pay to play. Maybe you guys need to go spill some McDonalds coffee on your lap so you can get a free ticket to life. Heck what's a few more illegals here and there across the border.

OK I am done.

Making a legitimate insurance claim isn't exactly the same as an illegal alien or a frivolous law suit........

My personal rule for insurance claims, you make them when you cannot afford to pay for it out of your pocket. This, personally I would not make a claim for.. But it wouldn't be wrong if the op did.

no jeep here...

Well before everyone condemns me for higher rates without me saying a peep, I'll just say that I don't have sufficient welding experience or time since I drove my JK 3000mi the past 3 weeks and am far from home.

It's at a fab shop right now with the LCA bracket being welded back on and reinforced... This'll do for now, no hard off-roading for meow. Like I said, I've been looking for a reason for a D44 but I have been busy and been to AZ, all the way to SC and in two weeks it's TX... Basically it's going to sit as a D30 until I have the time to get the D44, lockers, and 5.13's I want.
