Unit bearing fit...

I was under the assumption that the unit bearings were a very close "slip fit" style of fit into the knuckle. That they could be fit by hand but it was super close tolerance fit. I put my unit bearings into reid knuckles and this is not the case. I am not talking a lot but the bearings definitely aren't touching the ID of the knuckles. All of the pressure will be on the 3 bolts themselves as it is now. I didn't pay attention to my stock setup before I sold it off so I am just wondering if this is normal? One would think that the bearing would at least ever so slightly touch the knuckle around the OD of the bearing to spread that force out some...

Your description of how you think it should be is how I have found it to be on all the JK unit bearings/knuckles I have worked on.
The bolts hold the hub in place; most of the load on the hub is transferred to the knuckle via the close fit between hub and knuckle.

i've swapped Timkens twice in my JKU and once on my XJ in the past few years and yeah, the unit bearing into the OEM knuckle is pretty low tolerance but not pressed in it can build up enough rust from corrosion to seal that gap over high mileage , it's small enough, but the three fasteners are holding it together along with that. I cannot speak to the Ried knuckles...
