07 jk rear Dana 44 problems

Ok, pretty new to this forum but here it goes. My sister in law has a 07 jk 4" superlift,35" bfg mud terrains, rubicon express drivelines. She called today and said she was having vibration issues with it at 20 mph. Calls back 20mins later on a tow truck. Driver of tow truck says it's her ring and pinion, when she bought it I told her to get a Dana 44 in the rear of the x model since she wanted a lift and bigger tires. It's never been off road, and really can't believe with stock gears and an auto that it smoked the r&p at 30000 miles. Is this a problem anybody has had?

Since the '07 were the first model year Jeep was still ironing out some problems.....they should cover it under waranty.

If its lifted 4", have you checked the pinion angle?

If it didn't have enough oil in it there's a possibility it has starved the pinion and it has now ceased and destroyed itself (taking out the crownwheel with it).

Mine's done this with only a 3" lift. Had enough oil in it but due to the ARB locker displacing large amounts of the oil to the outer tubes the workshop probably didn't enlarge the tube drainback holes and this has caused the pinion to begin to run dry on long drives.

Mine didn't get as far as ceasing, but the pinion bearings were shagged.

Great thought!

Jeep did just change all the fluids back in feb. But I figured they knew what they were doing. It's has a limited slip rear so I will have to check it out. Btw she never got a warranty since she paid cash for it, so I get to do all the fun stuff

Ain't no way I'm believing a dealer is going to cover a R&P with a 4" lift & 35" tires Nope, ain't gonna happen.

I'm sorry, but you are letting the tow truck driver diagnose the problem....?

X2

I agree with Goody.

Hell, a bad U Joint can cause a pretty bad vibration and noise. Just sayin, if it were me, I'd check into it alot further.

If it is a defect in the manufacture of the vehicle or a known issue with the vehicle then they have to. I've seen dealers cover Jeeps on 35's for certain repairs. I wouldn't be going in for u-joints, hubs, or brakes...but you better believe I am going in for my clutch....it is a known issue with many internet posts/dealer notices to back it up.

Ok.

Truck driver just showed up took it off flatbed and pow. Rear cv fell out all over the driveway. Looked at him and said blown up rear end huh? He said all Dana 35 blow up sometime, as I started laughing and said it was a Dana 44 he said same difference.(whatever get the f$&k out of here) looks like the cv drivelines haven't been greased since I installed it in October. Plus it looks like I need to extend the uppers a little to kick the pinion up a little.

iv got a 3.5 lift with 35"s and when my rear locker blew they were more then happy to fix it, key is to go to a JEEP dealer (one that has more JK's in the lot then chargers and 300's) some dealers wont even look at it, but most will help you out

Two is one and one is none... Fire in the Hole
