5" backspacing?

I know everyone says go 4-4.5" but can't find crager soft 8s with less than 5 in 16x8 or 16x10. Will the 5" have any negative affect? What will it end up looking like? Anyone have pics with 35s and 5" backspace or know where I can find Cragers with smaller backspace? Thanks!!

I don't have Cragar's but I do have 5 1/4 backspace and I had to use wheel spacers so mine tires would not rub my Rock Krawler control arms.
I have ran the 1 1/2 Spidertrax and no problems. Makes the tires stick out a little from the fenders but IMO it gives you a wider track width which is better.

The reason everyone says 4.5" or less is that 4.5" gives you the bare minimum clearance from the arms without rubbing your tires. I would say go with 15s or 17s as I know they have 4.5" in them. Both Cragar and Pro Comp have the Soft 8 designs in 4.5" backspacing....I am considering going that route myself.

seems 15's will be cheaper than 17s though... any thoughts on the difference besides rim size?

what do you mean with "what are the numbers"the 997 type 8 are avalaible also in16x8 4.25 in BS,just be carefull a lot of 12.50 section tires require a minimum of 8.5 in wide rim.
tire size=35x12.50x16=315/75/16
35x12.50x17=315/70/17

I ended up with 5" backspacing accidentally. I thought the wheel had a -12 offset but it was +12. duh. So I have the cragar soft 8 in 16x8, with a 5" backspacing.

I have no rubbing on any control arms, even at full turn. I am running 35x12.5 tires on the wheels. I have a 3.25" Rusty's lift and full Teraflex flex arms (all 8).

I have flexed it and there is no rubbing but it was on a ramp. If I go on the trail, disconnected, at full stuff, AND full turn, well I'll just cross that bridge when I get to it...haha...

The stock wheel had 6.25" backspacing. The tire width is adding 2.5" over stock, which is 1.25" per side, which means the back face of the wheel should be 1.25" further out, which is exactly what 5" backspacing does. I guess people recommend the 4.5" as a safety thing? Because according to the math here, the inner face of that tire is in the exact same spot as stock when you have 5" backspacing.
