Hacking a front bumper

I am interested in hacking the wings off of my front bumper until I decide which aftermarket I want.

If I buy a Sawzall this weekend how many blades will I need to get through that steel?

Checkout the Rough Country kit with the bumper ends. It will make for a cleaner look.

I cut through mine with a 25 year old POS B&D jigsaw and a metal blade. Went through it like butter.

Cut the plastice and the metal separate though. If the blade gets real hot from the metal, it sort of melts the plastic as it cuts it.

I shortened both of my rock rails with one blade...and it's still good. You won't need more than one...........

Thanks for the advice guys!

I don't have a jig saw up here, all the power tools are at my dad's house in Houston.

I have a brand new 4" angle grinder and a 1/2" DeWalt hammer drill sitting there waiting on me. He hasn't been able to ship it cause he got sick.

Sawzall here I come! LOL

I used a sawzall on mine and welded some end caps on to finsih it off. I also welded some bars in the fog light holes and threw some lights back there as mine is an x without stock fogs. Came out nice. These pics are old as i got rid of the front mounted rear tow hook and put on a set of d ring shackle mounts i made and d rings. Here are a couple pics.

Let the blade do the work and you will be fine with one blade. Put too much pressure on the blade and you will ruin it.

Bought a sawzall at Harbor Freight tonight for $24.00. 6 amp, wired, 180* pivot head and all. Pretty good deal IMO.

Whoever came up with the design on the front bumper cover and the way that it goes over the tow hooks deserves to be kicked in the dick.

I couldn't take off the overlay without taking the bumper completely off and I have to pull it all back apart tomorrow just to put the damn cover back on there. Am I missing something here??

I'm going to do something different from the other "stubby" bumpers but you'll have to wait and see my disasterpiece tomorrow.

Living in an apartment sucks when it comes to working on shit and trying not to make any noise. I have a garage but the back wall runs up against the neighbors laundry room so I am overly conscious of that. Had to drag the bumper about 50 yards out in the grass to hack on it.

No, you aren't missing something. It's a PITA. I even tried loosening the bolts, reaming the holes a bit and beating the shit out of it with a 10lb dead blow. It would not go on without taking everything apart.

When my stinger showed up, as much as I wanted to put it on, I waited a couple days to build up the will power to deal with getting that shit off again.
