ACE Gatekeeper installed

When I saw this product I thought it would fit my needs. I was surprised to see so little about it on the forums. I guess people love their spare.

Install was very straightforward despite the lack of instructions. One of the reviews on the ACE website had some helpful info about which wires to tap into.

You also have to remove the top loop on the hi-lift or you'll dent your corner at the hinge side. If you avoid this by simply moving the jack towards the latch, you get it mounted way out in retardo fashion. Probably don't need the top loop anyway.

One extra thing I decided to do was throw a patch of R-Vinyl paint protector on the tailgate before I bolted this up. The mounting footprint is a lot larger than the stock tire carrier, so I didn't want it abrading directly on the tailgate finish (should I ever go with something different and the clear coat gets exposed again).

Adam explained that the two holes on either side of the license plate extension tube will provide some venting.

My only gripe with this thing is that the license plate holder wasn't welded up totally square with the mount itself. When viewed from the top it was barely, but visibly, a little off. It's totally cosmetic and most would never notice.

Feast your eyes...

The boring but necessary unboxing. I thought it was well packaged.

The HiLift bolts had anti-seize on them which was a nice gesture.

Looks cool, but I really want my spare tire.

Thanks for the write-up!

If I'm going anywhere interesting I will throw the spare in the back, but with my OBA I can solve all the tire problems I will have day-to-day.
