Rear bumper w/carrier on the cheap

OK so the ARBs are on their way out the door. I ordered an LoD and was told 4 - 6 weeks so I called back and cancelled. So no my build is going the minimalist route. No frills front bumper with winch and I am going with either a rancho e lcheapo rear of at best a smittybilt chinese XRC... thoughts/opinions

Call LoD back and re-place the order or see if any vendor has some LoDs in stock. Get the stubby.

I have the rancho rear bumper, and its not very minimalist. It is cheap though. your departure angle will suck with it, its spaced so that a hi lift can mount behind the spare (between the rear gate and spare) so it sticks out pretty bad.

This might give you an idea of what im talking about

looking at it I would say the factory hitch with DRing would affect departure angle first... great pic though. The plan is to bump up to a 6" kit on at least 37s so that should make up for the departure angle a little

agree'd, but if i hadn't bought a cheap bumper, I wouldnt need an extra tow point in the rear. plan on building my next one with all that built into it and with a low profile

Thanks for the info.... has it at least held up well? I think it would be perfect as a temp solution until I figure out what I really want

you are better off without the LOD bumper. Poor quality, and no customer service. IMO

I agree...although I really like the clean look of the LoD and the attachments you can add, every vendor I spoke with has had issues trying to get the LoD manufacturer to follow through on orders timely if at all. I am going to do the XRC route as well. I already have the XRC front bumper and their side armor rails and like their products a lot so keeping it with the same brand. Yeah, you have to do a little modification to their stuff to get it to fit perfect, but it's still worth it for the price. Saves me from having to try and fab something together.

I have been researching the minimalist route my self and I think I am going to go with the Swag Offroad Rear bumper/frame cover and the OR Fab tire carrier.

*edit* Pictures for referance

On the JK there is only one hole to drill. A halfway decent body shop could "undo" that easily if you ever want to go back.

ya I hear ya... just felt the load on the frame instead of the body would be better especially when I go 37s and most likely 40s one day. I ordered the XRC and plan to add provisions for the hi lift and rotopacks

The load is not on the body. The load is on the brackets. I have the OR Fab tire carrier on my TJ, and a lot of people are surprised when they see all of the hardware. Lots of people are running 37" and bigger on OR Fab carriers.

I have seen them in person and I agree they are stout.... 37s I think would be the absolute largest tire it would support. If I go 40s I don't want to have to play the bumper game again

Sounds like I'm too late here but.... You can get one of our rear bumpers for $800 or a little less if you find one of our coupon codes floating around. The tire carrier component can be bought separately when you upgrade to the 37's or 40's...
