help with engine noise

Got jeep back from dealer and they replaced the starter. Now I'm noticing a pronounced whirring sound. Sounds like an rc car almost. It increases with rpms and gets louder. I first noticed it at idle.

Also herculined the tub so maybe I'm hearing normal noise? Doubt it though.

So any ideas?

Yes, but there's just something about him. Something around the eyes, I don't know, reminds me of... me. No. I'm sure of it, I hate him.

My guess would be a belt and/or pulley

u do mean belt not belts right? and the tension isn't adjustable, but the tensioner pulley has same pulley as the idler bolted to it. It likes muddy water as much as the idler.

Justin didnt I tell ya to replace both of them already

$650? damn thats a good price, but you sure? that noise shouldnt really change with rpm, does it pretty much stop when you turn the a/c on? thats when the inner pulley magnetically locks to the outer pulley you can actually watch it. I paid $770 for mine, dealer originally wanted 925

I guess your "friend" is paying for it right?

I can get just the compressor for 330 from mopardiscountparts, and they want 290 to install and charge it.

But i dont think thats what it is, im going to try and find somewhere to get a second opinion.

I can definitely hear it change with clutch usage, so im going to go somewhere else ans have them take a listen.

The gy at the dealer pulled the belt though and spun the ac compressor and said that it was making the noise and got another guy to verify too, but i never personally heard it.

By "It changes with clutch usage" you mean turning the AC on and off? Or do you mean the clutch clutch? A whirring sound with the clutch out that goes away when you engage it is typically throwout bearing.

Either way, your battin a thousand today.

I can say with certainty if the noise stops or gets a LOT quieter once the a/c comp clutch is engaged thats what the problem is. The mud or dirt is trapped between the two pulleys while the inner is not spinning the outer rotating around it grinds that dirt making the noise, soon as they lock together when engaged its almost gone. If its changing at idle with it off and on its definitely that. Have someone sit in Jeep and turn a/c on and off, you can see it lock up and the noise change/stop.
