Is an 8k winch REALLY enough for our JK, though (especially the 4dr)? Seems most are runnin' 9k-9.5k.

yeah it's enough....I had an XRC-8 on my last Jeep. it's rated for double the weight of your Jeep....yeah I know there are scientific math calculations to take in account for inertia, gravity, pulling against uphill, etc etc......but it's the "man factor" of going bigger! Anyone see the new smittybuilt "powerplant" at $700? It sucks cause they introduced it less than 30 days after I spent $1100 on my powerplant!

Yeah, I saw the Smitty version of the Powerplant. I'd like to hear some user feedback first, but I've considered it. Now, I'm thinking of the subject XRC8 COMP and a Viair system (which I'm hoping the wifey got me for Christmas).

i run the xrc8 on my stock bumper and it has gotten me out more then a few times. it is the regular one not the comp series but for less then $300 its a deal. i understand that 4wd parts sells a no haggle lifetime warranty for like $50 if you buy from them. if you use a snatch block it doubles the pulling strength of the winch. i used the rough country bumper mount.

I've used the shit outta mine (mostly winching other people out!)

Best $269 I have spent on the JK. So far no problems with the winch. I probably have used it over 20 times. The finish (paint) on it is not great. I just put another one on my rockbuggy with the syn line. Havent used it yet.

Mile Markers are great winches. I have run Warn and MM on my TJs and I can't justify the $$$ for Warn anymore.... even though I hate Shittybilt products I couldn't pass up $249

Hey TBP,
I just switched bumpers and you can have my old winch mount for the cost of shipping if you want it...
looks like this...

Just drill 4 holes and cut the bumper.
If you want it send me a pm

Yes, but there's just something about him. Something around the eyes, I don't know, reminds me of... me. No. I'm sure of it, I hate him.

I have the xrc-8 with synthetic line and it works great. I have used it 5-6 times in the past two days helping people get out of ditches with all of this snow. I got mine from 4wd.com shipped to my house for 359.99. A great deal in my mind since the synthetic line alone usually costs about 200.

shittttttttt.....I must of just missed these good prices.

Currently I'm looking at:
XRC8 cable for 280-299 shipped
or comp series w/ syn line for 450 shipped
xrc10 cable for 399 shipped.

I'd really like the xrc8 comp but would i be better going with the xrc10? if anyone sees any other good prices please let me know. If someone sees 359 shipped for the comp they've got my money.
I dont' have to buy now....so will be patient. Thanks for your thoughts on this.

$359 for the comp is unheard of to me. thats a REALLY good deal.

How good is their synthetic line? Out here in the desert I think is synthetics worst nightmare. UV rays and dirt/dust getting into the line. Anyone have some results in the desert after some time? I have a feeling that "cheap" synthetic line will meet it's demise in the desert after a few summers...

discuss?

I do agree with that, cuda. I'd be interested to know as well as the desert is my normal running territory. On the plus side, you can splice the syn line together in case of breakage. As for the dust and crud getting into it, maybe one of those winch covers to add some longevity? Dunno, but for the price of the comp, I'm definitely leaning towards giving it a shot!

Plus, breakage equals upgrades! Although it would kill me to spend more on the new syn line than the winch itself!

Is the only difference between the XRC8 and XRC8 Comp the synthetic line? Thinking about cheaping out and getting the cable XRC8 now and upgrading the line later if that's the only diff.

That is the only difference (and the aluminum vs. roller fairlead obviously).

I'm in exactly the same boat. I'm hoping I don't use mine much, put it on and never need it. So I'm also wondering about the durabiliy/longevity of the rope vs. cable. Either one would be maintained through periods of use or non use.
