Jeep wont start

Tried to start the jeep this morning and all I get is a loud click each time I try. I attempted to pull the diagnostic codes but got nothing, just get the 6 dashes but no codes afterwards. All the electronics seem to be working when I put the key in the on position. Did not have a check engine light on the last time I drove it. This is a 2008 2 door rubicon with 18,000 miles. Still running the original battery, could this be it or does it sound like something else?

If all your getting is a loud click could be a bad starter. Try and tap it with a hammer. Sometimes it works. If it does I would replace it.

Try rowing through the gears and seating it back into park if it's an auto.

Mine had a similar issue IIRC and it was something to do with the neutral safety switch and that seems to make it happy.

Yeah a buddy of mine has a 07 or an 08 and he has to bump the auto shifter towards Park sometimes to get it to crank.
