Depends on what you are into:

Down South Off-Road in Crosby TX is basically sand and mud. But they have a small lake and some river side beach. They also have concert out there on occasion.

Texas Off Road Ranch near Huntsville has better terrain with some man made rock walls and some sandy/rocky hill climbs. They also have a natural spring on the property for swimming in the summer time.

General Sams is another mud hole up near Huntsville.

Hidden Falls is about a 4-4.5hr trip in Marble Falls is far superior to anything closer to Houston at this time.

If i was just looking for a day trip, Texas Off Road Ranch would be my choice. Check them out on the facebook. Yes...the facebook.

I think this thing is finally coming together. Still Needed: drive shafts, frame mount rails...then done son! For a while...

You'll have to head to Central Texas for some fun places to go wheel, or go north to Barnwell Mountain in Gilmer, TX
In Central Texas, besides Hidden Falls you have K2, Trees Ranch, Canyons Offroad, Kline Ranch (Small place), etc.

just on a 2.5 lift and 33" tires so not looking for anything crazy, a little climbing and water would be nice.

None to speak of, it's all private property around houston.
