VKS Fab Prerunner Rear Prototype

So we are about rear to put the Prerunner rear into production and wanted your feedback. The main issue we are running into is a drop in the center of the bumper for the rear tire. We can add a drop to this rendering but it's gonna add some cost (eight bends in the top tube). We're trying to keep this bumper in the $500-600 ball park. The other way to remedy this is to cut the rear frame/cross-member back (no cutting on this render). That way we can build it much closer to the body and a spare will fit with most aftermarket carriers. If we go the frame-cut route we will add a receiver. Also, both renders will have d-ring mounts, they're not pictured. So let us know what you think, cut, no cut, spare, no spare...

Not one of the options listed, but what about a tire carrier option for it?

The design is nice and clean, though.

Here is a rendering of the frame-cut version. It'll be the standard 3.75" cut with the rear cross-member removed. This model comes in at a light weight 34lbs+weld,d-ring tabs.

We are leaning towards this version. I may get one cut up, finished and fit it on our JK.

I know we're going to get asked about adding a hitch to this version. It's just not going to be possible. We can't get one in there good enough where we would stand behind its strength. We would have to add a good amount of material and change the design quite a bit.

Let us know what you think!!

Looks good Vick.

With the Shorty and this one, you have a nice choice of rear bumpers.

Since the Shorty sits close to the body due to a frame cut, have you thought about making the Pre Runner a bumper that does not require a frame cut. Gives customers a choice to cut or not. I guess then you would need to add the bend for the spare tire...

We made bumpers similar to this for awhile.... Nobody bought them though so we killed them off. Good luck. I always like this look and style.

Can I get this with a hitch and a tire swing?

Looks awesome! Tough to choose between this one and the shorty!!

I think you need to have the ability to run a spare either way.

I'll take one with a frame cut and trailer hitch. Maybe I'll just head down to your shop and let you fab something up for me. I'm up in the Valley so not to far. No spare either. I'm not 100% sure but most of the guys up in NorCal willing to do a frame cut aren't running a spare on the tailgate so no tire cut out required in my opinion.

Well frame-cut it is. We need to finalize a couple things and they'll be for sale. Here are some pics of a 90% complete one. We're gonna finish it up and fit on our shop jeep and I'll grab some more pics. Let us know what you think!

Yeah, we've been kicking around the idea. We have a local customer that we are building a one-off rear no-cut prerunner for. We may put it into production.

Yup, that frame cut rear is a beautiful bit of steel. I think that pushes me toward doing the front and rear now.
