Check out my shaft.

You dirty mofo's looked.

Okay, so my stock rear drive shaft started making some loud ratcheting noises so I replaced it over the weekend. Here are some pics of the condition of stock shaft after 25K miles lifted 4 inches.

The internals are the CV joint from the tcase side of the shaft.

Interesting

Quite a bit of peening on the cage and ball tracks.

SDMF, that is some serious pinging. How many miles do you have on that?

I had my stock shaft fail on xfer case side at 70 mph on the hwy! (sorry to the guys from the jkboard, they have seen this post before).

Hey, it took long enough to get a comment!

And yeah, there was a lot of wear on it. It had about 25k miles lifted, and 5k stock.

Mine wasn't making any noise prior to failing. See how dry it looks, we think that it didn't have any (or enough) lube in it from the factory. I was at only about 10K miles - some serious wheeling but not much at the time. So with the 1350 rear I don't worry about that but as soon as I get my longarm installed we are doing a 1310 on the front.

It is. I hope this one lasts long enough for me to want to buy a better rear shaft, but I will probably just get another stocker. This last one cost me 50 bucks, so if I can get another for 50 I will.

That was my first thought when I looked at the pics, looks like someone forgot to lube it at the factory.

Don't forget to lube the UJ's and the centering ball every so often.
