Where is this sound coming from!!!! FOUND IT!!

I have developed a "clicking" sound coming from somewhere. I can't hear it inside the jeep, but the wife says she can here it when I come down the road.

I had a couple of other Jeep peeps over this evening, We jacked it up, checked the ball joints, nope, not that.. U-Joints look good, just can't seem to find it.

I do have a 2.5 inch Skyjacker BB, but that has been on for about 2 years, increased tire size recently, went from the stock BFG to Falken 285/70r17s, and a steel wheel. but the clicking started before I put on these tires and wheels.

No other mods..

We just can't find it!! Any ideas?

Some say I have A.D.D but, Oh look.. a chicken!!

Did you check your axle shafts by the T-case and tail housing?

Look at you track bar mounts and check them for cracking at the axle. I had a sudden click develop shortly before the front axle mount broke off.

I just got the same sound. I couldn't find it so I took it to the dealer this morning. I guess we'll see what they say

Clicking sound occurrence/frequency speed, load, directional, engine rpm,......
dependent?

here is what we did last night to try to find:
Jacked up front end (entire front end), spun wheels forward and reverse, slow speed and high (as fast as we could by hand), no sound. Inspected ball joints, ujoints, track bar, sway bar. Also did same for rear, no sounds. dropped it and ran it down the road, friends could here it again..

Sorry but that still doesn't give an answer to my question(s), under what driving conditions does the clicking occur and is there a pattern to it?

It can only be heard from outside the jeep, my wife hears it while driving down out street, 25mph. I assume it does it all the time, but I cannot hear it from inside the jeep.

Good questions PC;

What he's asking is,
Does the clicking speed up the faster you drive?
Does it stop when you push in the clutch (manual) ?
Does it stop when you put it in neutral (auto) ?
Does it stop when you kill the engine while the Jeep is still moving? (be very careful trying this)
Does it click in reverse?

This might all have been checked already, but it would help us help you if we knew the answers to these questions.

well then maybe go with an observer of your choice to an empty parking lot or somewhere else where you don't endanger the wildlife,..err public. Ride by at different speeds and the observer should check if the pattern changes and if it changes can it be correlated to the speed (higher speed - faster clicking).
Then go by coasting, accelerating, turning left, turning right, swaying left/right.... etc.

Have someone take a video of you driving and post up the evidence. Might help. More eyes and ears

You were close!!

Here is what the dealer (and corrected):
Found the aftermarket swaybar link noisy. Drag link rattling against aftermarket steering damper. Adjusted drag link.
